![]() Since 80% of learning is done visually, 3 years old is when Complete Vision Care recommends your children's first eye examination if you haven't noticed any troubles prior. We do see children as young as 6 months old if you have noticed trouble prior to three years old. Having your child's eyes examined this young is vital to ensuring (s)he is ready for school. There are many easily correctable vision-related troubles that can impede on your child's learning that we will assess at the eye examination. Even if you do not have vision insurance on your child, the Affordable Care Act recently made it mandatory for all medical insurances to cover a routine eye examination annually for children under the age of 18. How will an eye examination play a role in my child's learning? Approximately 80% of learning is done visually. Vision conditions that are undiagnosed and untreated become stumbling blocks to learning. When children are visually able to learn, they have the potential to be successful in everything they do. Think about the tasks students tackle each day like reading & spelling, writing & computer work. To complete these tasks children must be able to see and understand information. Healthy vision is more than just the ability to see clearly from one end of the classroom to the other. It also includes visualizing, understanding & applying information that comes into the brain through the eyes. Here are the seven essential visual abilities needed for learning. -Visual Acuity: Seeing clearly at distance or near -Accommodation: Maintaining clear vision as objects are move closer to the eyes -Eye Teaming: Coordinating both eyes together so they both point at the exact same object -Eye Movement: Tracking objects or views easily -Perception: Interpreting correctly what is seen, and then reacting to it -Eye-Hand Coordination: Using the eyes to guide the hands. -Imagery: Seeing pictures in the mind. -Remembering pictures of what has been seen in the past -Visualizing new pictures in the mind. We will ensure your child's eyes are seeing clearly and functioning as a team so they can learn efficiently. Warning Signs that your child may have vision trouble:

I didn't realize our daughter should see the eye doctor so early. However, if 80% of learning is done visually, I can see why that's important! I want to make sure she's seeing everything clearly.

My niece's eyes are blurry already and she was having a hard time studying because of it. According to this, about eighty percent of learning is done visually and vision conditions that are not diagnosed can hinder her studies. Moreover, it's recommended to go to trusted health professionals when in need of an eye exam.

It was interesting to learn that approximately 80% of all learning is done visually. A child that couldn't see well would definitely fall behind in learning. My sister is expecting her first child so I'll be sure to recommend she get her daughter's eyes checked to make sure that she's able to learn about an experience the world around her.

I did not know the fact that it's mandatory for all medical insurances to cover a routine eye examination annually for children under the age of 18. My sister told me that her daughter is struggling at school due to sight issues. I will recommend to her to take her to a pediatric eye doctor to make sure she is fine.

If the health care plan is ACA compliant, it does cover a routine eye exam. Since changes have taken place to the ACA, please check with your individual health insurance plan on this benefit.

I'm glad that you talked about child learning is mostly done visually. I became alert right away after that comment because I wouldn't like my child to lose his sight so young. Thank you for the information. I'll contact a professional so my child can get regular eye exams.

My daughter is pretty good at reading, but she does hold her books at a ridiculously close distance. She's also been complaining about not being able to see the board. I'll have to schedule an eye exam and see if she needs glasses. It's pretty likely because her mom wears glasses too.

I liked that you said that one reason to consider having yoyur child receive an eye exam is that it will help them to learn better in school. I have been worried about my child's vision but I haven't been sure what to do to resolve the situation. I will be sure to take them for an eye exam in order to acquire the good vision and gradesin school.

It's good to know that we should take our daughter in before she's three if we're worried that there is an issue. We know she's been more easily distracted than her older siblings were at that age, but we hadn't considered that might be an indicator of eye trouble. We'd want to catch something like that early, so maybe we should find a doctor to check her out and make sure everything's ok.

It was really helpful when you said that a sign could be fatigue when reading and losing their place. For the past couple of weeks, I have noticed how my 5-year-old daughter has been struggling doing her daily reading for school and complains about how it always makes her tired. I'll have to look into finding an eye doctor to see if she is having some vision trouble!

I didn't know that we can bring our child for an eye examination as early as 3 years old. My son is 2 years and a half now and we haven't noticed anything weird with his eyes. I will make sure that I bring him to have his eyes checked when he is 3.
