5 Ways to Keep Your Eyes Healthy

Want to make sure you’re taking care of your eyes but don’t know where to start? We’ve got some useful tips to keep your eyes healthy, safe and away from vision harm.
Picture
Picture
Wear protective eyewear.
According to the National Eye Institute, more than 100,000 eye injuries are estimated to be sports-related, and 90 percent of sports-related injuries are eye related. Every day safety eyewear glasses, goggles, safety shields, eye guards can help prevent these injuries from occurring. If you’re playing sports outside, make sure to wear either sunglasses (preferably ones with strong UV protection like our E-SPF50+!) or goggles.

Picture
Take off all that makeup.
Makeup is great when needed, but old eye makeup can lead to bacterial infections, toxic heavy metals, dry eyes, allergic reactions and loss of eyelashes. So, if you’ve been applying some eye shadow, liner, primer and mascara, make sure you properly take it off! And, if you’re out of makeup remover, consider using avocado.

Eat healthy.
A new study shows that coffee can be good for your eyes, as its strong antioxidant chlorogenic acid can prevent retinal degeneration. For food, think leafy greens, dark berries, eggs and cold-water fish like salmon, which have plenty of omega-3 fatty acids. And, while we’re on the topic of health, quitting smoking is also a good idea as cigarettes can lead to cataracts, optic nerve damage and macular degeneration.

Regular eye exams.
Annual comprehensive eye exams can spot  early signs of diseases. Keep in mind the difference between a vision screening  (includes a brief vision test for acuity) and a comprehensive eye exam (which tests all aspects of your vision).

Take a break and look away from the computer.
Digital eye strain affects up to 75 percent of computer workers.  In our plugged-in lives, we’re susceptible to “computer vision syndrome,” which can include ocular discomfort, muscular strain and stress. To help relieve the tension, eye doctors suggest taking a break, blinking frequently, wearing computer glasses and checking your computer’s position (20 to 28 inches away from the eye is best). Make sure to think about setting your monitor near minimum overhead light.  Also try magnifying the text on your screen to make reading easier.

So, in short, protect your eyes like you would protect your skin and the rest of the organs in your body. Stay safe, use eyewear protection and keep rocking on!

It's interesting to know that changing your eating habits and stop smoking could prevent eye problems. My grandmother is starting to develop eye problems, and we are looking for natural treatments for her. I will contact an optometrist for a checkup, only to prevent any future problems with her eyes.

I thought it was really good that you explain it's important to protect your eyes like you'd protect your skin. Recently, I think my vision has been worsening. I'll have to look into vision treatment and follow these tips.

It's interesting to know that a healthy diet will prevent retinal degeneration. My husband and I are looking for advice about how to achieve good eye health. I will make sure to change our diet to provide our bodies with the nutrients to have a healthy vision.

Oh, it's good to know that I should remove any eye makeup at the end of the day to help take better care of my eyes. This is actually quite useful to me because I was thinking of starting a metal band, and a metal band without eyeliner isn't a metal band at all. In any case, I should probably see an eye doctor anyway just to check that my vision is in good condition.

I've been experiencing a blurry vision due to binge-watching, which is why I've decided to start looking for an optometrist that will be able to address this concern. Well, I appreciate that you explained here the advantage of annual eye exams. I'll also keep in mind to eat more food that consists of omega-3 fatty acids.

My dad has been having a lot of problems with his eyesight, so he would really like to get it checked in. He would like to get some help from a professional to make sure that there aren't any problems. I liked what you said about how he should eat omega-3 fatty acids from fish, eggs, dark berries, and leafy greens.

I was talking to my friend recently and he talked about how hard it is for him to work lately because of his eye pain episodes. Your suggestion of giving his eyes a rest if he's working extended hours is a great idea. We should probably look for an eye doctor that can diagnose the source of this pain for him as well.

Thank you for reminding us that it is important for us to wear protective eyewear when we participate in extreme sports. It is important for us to have our eyes protected as it could cause serious harm such as blindness. I think I will see an eye doctor an get a recommendation since I am very into extreme sports.

I appreciated it when you shared that you are able to spot early signs of diseases if you conduct a comprehensive eye exam yearly. My aunt just mentioned the other day that she is concerned about her eyesight as she is unable to see clearly now even though she is already wearing her glasses. I will suggest to her looking for a reliable healthcare facility where she can conduct an eye exam.

I never knew that smoking can lead to cataracts and optic nerve damage. My cousin has been smoking since college, so I'm a little worried about him. He has been having blurry vision and trouble seeing at night. I think I should ask him to dinner later, so I can advise him to visit an eye center that can let him know if he needs a cataract surgery.

I was not aware that regular eye exams can help you to identify signs of problems with your vision. My wife has been thinking about how to improve our vision health, and we are looking for advice about what to do. I will make sure to contact an optometrist to help us.

I like how you explained that annual comprehensive exams can help you detect signs of diseases that might be developing. If your family has a history of eye problems, I would imagine that it would be a good idea to visit an optometrist at least once a year. I would guess that not all eye diseases progress the same, so this seems like the best way to prevent them from developing.

I appreciate what you said about quitting smoking so you don't get macular degeneration. My left eye has been getting blurry for months now. I'll have to get my eyes tested by a doctor.

It was very informative when you discussed that a yearly comprehensive eye exam is important to detect early signs of diseases. This got me thinking to also consider comprehensive eye exams for my family to keep our eyes healthy. With that said, I think I should start looking for an optometrist near our place to handle an annual comprehensive eye exam for my family.

This post made an excellent point that one of the many benefits of undergoing routine eye exam is that it ensures our eye health is optimum. My wife mentioned that her eyesight has been blurry. I will definitely keep this information in mind and schedule an appointment soon.
