GDx TESTING --
A new laser technology which may revolutionize the early diagnosis of glaucoma is available at Complete Vision Care. The laser instrument called GDx VCC Nerve Fiber Analyzer measures the nerve fiber layer, a thin layer of tissue surrounding the optic nerve, and has been found to be a more precise and accurate test when used in combination with other technologies currently used to detect glaucoma. GDx VCC is especially valuable in screening for glaucoma. The current air puff test which only measures intraocular pressure to detect glaucoma is insufficient as studies show that numerous glaucoma sufferers have no elevation of pressure.
VISUAL FIELD ANALYSIS --
The Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer II is used to detect loss of retinal function as glaucoma progresses. Our office also utilizes FDT visual field technology as a free service included in every comprehensive eye examination. FDT has been found to be sensitive at detecting early visual field loss from optic nerve and retinal disease. By compiling and analyzing information on nerve fiber layer thickness, visual field sensitivity, and optic nerve structure, we can detect glaucoma earlier and monitor it more closely than ever before.
It is important to be aware of this advanced technology as nearly 50% of individuals with glaucoma are not aware that they have the disease. Diagnosing glaucoma takes more than testing eye pressure. A glaucoma screening is included as a part of every comprehensive eye exam performed at Complete Vision Care. For those found to be at risk, additional testing using the advanced technology mentioned above is recommended. Are you due for a comprehensive eye exam?
